Mrs Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim

Founder

Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim is a indigenous activist from the Mbororo pastoralist community in Chad. She is currently a Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues as well as the co-chair of the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee and Co-Chair of the Pan-African Climate Change Justice Alliance. She is a Founder of the Association of Indigenous Women and Peoples in Chad, a group fighting to defend the environment and the rights of indigenous people. In 2015 at COP21 she represented ingenious communities at the signing ceremony in Paris and in 2019 was listed by Times Magazine as one of 15 women championing action in climate change.Witnessing how climate change affects the life of her community, she actively raised awareness among Chadians and in the past five years has organised annual workshops on the topic of science and traditional knowledge.
