Mrs Manar Ramadan
Co-Founder and R&D head
Manar is a Co-founder and R&D head of “Banlastic Egypt”, a social enterprise that aims to ban single use plastic and activating environmental preservation laws. Since 2012, she got more engaged in different community development projects, all in the field of sustainability and community engagement. She had designed and delivered number of workshops on various topics like climate change, sustainability and plastic waste in number of environmental projects. She had also worked as an Educator at “Out to the Sea?” Plastic garbage exhibition that operated under Droses Foundation, Darb 1718 and Library of Alexandria. Manar completed her MA degree in sustainable development practices, TERI University, New Delhi with focus on opportunities of offering quality education in Community schools based on UNICEF standards. Her 2 years stay in India had inspired her contributing to banning single use plastic in Egypt and started to campaign for the cause. She chose Alexandria as the starting point of the project for being the biggest coastal city in Egypt, the sensed community readiness and for being one of the most affected ones by the plastic pollution. She works on supporting grassroots initiatives and building resilient self organized communities that work on environmental preservation in remote cities in Egypt as she believes that those are the main catalysts for in ground change.
