Mrs Inka Gnittke

Deputy Director General

Inka Gnittke is Deputy Director General Nature Conservation in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). She is National Focal Point for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and German lead negotiator in the negotiations for a post-2020 global biodiversity framework. After studies in Landscape Planning and Nature Conservation at the University of Hannover, Germany, she gathered extensive work experience in the environmental and nature administration in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 2003 onwards she has worked in different divisions of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, including on protected areas and climate finance/ UNFCCC negotiations and took part in UNFCCC negotiations from 2012 till 2015, including COP 21 in Paris. Before taking over the role as Deputy Director General Nature Conservation, she headed the Division on Protected Areas and subsequently the Division on International Cooperation on Biodiversity.
